Gurugram Metro Update: In a major update for the commuters, the Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) has reportedly identified Krishna Chowk and Old Delhi Road for integrated double-decker metro-road lines. The structures will be built under the second phase of the Gurugram Metro project and will be linked with the proposed Sector 9 to Cyber Hub metro corridor. The metro authority has also sought Rs 100 crore from the GMDA for planning and construction, reported the Hindustan Times.
Project To Boost Connectivity
While talking about the project, the officials stated that the revised tender has been sent to the World Bank for approval. They further stated that the project will significantly boost the regional connectivity by cutting the travel time and reducing the traffic congestion.
"The cost of constructing these civil structures has been included in the revised tender of ₹1,409 crore that has been sent to the World Bank for approval. The structures will optimise space at the ground level and ensure smooth traffic flow at the two locations," an official was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

Common Piers To Support Both Structures
While one level of the design will carry the metro viaduct, the second will accommodate an elevated road; however, common piers will be utilised to support both structures. Apart from this, the metro authority has clarified that it will only build the parts of the flyover linked with the metro viaduct, adding that the remaining portion will be constructed by GMDA.
"The remaining portion of the flyover will have to be built by the GMDA simultaneously so that the entire flyover can be opened as a single integrated project," the letter issued by GMRL read. Apart from this, the metro authority has also proposed another integrated double-decker design for the stretch from Ghata to Vatika Chowk to boost the connectivity.
