Uttarakhand Stampede: Six people died and several others got injured in a stampede in Haridwar after thousands gathered at the Mansa Devi Temple on Sunday. The officials stated that the injured have been admitted to a local hospital where they are being treated. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Dhami also stated that the rescue teams have arrived at the site, adding that the situation is being closely monitored. The initial report suggests that a rumour of an electric shock on the stairs of the temple triggered the stampede, informed the officials. However, a detailed report is likely to provide more details regarding the exact reasons behind the tragic incident.
What caused the Haridwar stampede?
While providing details, CM Pushkar Singh Dhami confirmed that the incident happened due to a rumour, adding that a probe has been ordered into the matter. "An unfortunate incident has taken place in which 6 people have died and many others have been injured in a stampede at the Mansa Devi temple due to a rumour. A magisterial inquiry has been ordered, the injured have been shifted to hospital and rescue operations are underway. Strict action will be taken against whoever is found guilty. All possible efforts are being made to help the injured," Dhami was quoted as saying by ANI.

Haridwar DM Mayur Dixit stated that someone spread rumour of electric wire breaking, leading to the panic among the devotees. "We found through photos and videos that someone spread the rumour of electric wire breaking, while looking at the injured or the dead, we did not get any such indication... We will investigate who spread the rumour that caused the stampede and a magisterial inquiry will be set up investigating cameras and other means... The death of 6 people has been confirmed," Dixit was quoted as saying by ANI.

Apart from this, SSP Pramendra Singh Dobal stated that the injured are receiving treatment, adding that a probe has been ordered into the incident.
"We received reports of some people being injured, following which the police took immediate action. Around 35 people were brought to the hospital and 6 have been confirmed dead. The rest are undergoing treatment... Prima facie, the stampede was triggered by a rumour of an electric shock on stairs 100 metres down the temple route. We are investigating further," Dobal was quoted as saying by ANI.
