Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday spoke with the Indian Cricket Team and congratulated them on their spectacular T20 World Cup win. PM Modi hailed skipper Rohit Sharma for his excellent captaincy and glorious T20 career. Besides, he commended Virat Kohli for his performance in the final and his significant contributions to Indian cricket, news agency ANI reported.
PM Modi praised Hardik Pandya for his performance in the final over and Surya Kumar Yadav for his crucial catch, which turned the fate of the game in India’s favour. Additionally, he spoke highly of Jaspreet Bumrah’s contribution. Modi also expressed his gratitude to India’s head coach, Rahul Dravid, for his efforts.

On Saturday, India defeated South Africa by 7 runs to secure their second T20 World Cup title. The Indian bowlers, led by Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya, orchestrated a remarkable comeback while defending a total of 177 in 20 overs. This victory ended an 11-year trophy drought, with India's last major win being the 2013 Champions Trophy in England.
On Saturday, following India's splendid victory, the Prime Minister posted a congratulatory video message for the 'Men in Blue,' hailing them as champions. “CHAMPIONS! Our team brings the T20 World Cup home in STYLE! We are proud of the Indian Cricket Team,” he said in a post on X, along with the video.

This was India's second T20 World Cup victory in 17 years, following their triumph in the inaugural edition in 2007. It also marked 11 years since Team India last won a major ICC title, with their previous win being the Champions Trophy in 2013.
