Jagdeep Dhankhar Row: There is a lot of speculation about the reasons for Jagdeep Dhankhar's resignation from the post of Vice President. Dhankhar cited poor health as the reason for his resignation, but his exit story is not as straightforward as it looks. Dhankhar, who kept receiving rock-solid backing from the top leadership of the Bharatiya Janata Party since his tenure of Bengal Governor. Now, the question is what really happened that cost him the Vice President's Chair.

Was Dhankhar Asked To Step Down?
According to Jagran.com, Dhankhar had received the calls from two senior Union Ministers shortly after accepting the Opposition's notice on impeachment against Justice Yashwant Verma on Monday evening.

The Hindustan Times reported that the ministers had said that PM Modi was not happy with this move. Dhankhar replied by saying that he was working within the rules. The report said that those two Union Ministers were - Leader of Rajya Sabha JP Nadda and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju.
According to the information, all this happened after the first meeting of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) in the Rajya Sabha on Monday. After this, the leaders decided not to attend the second BAC meeting held at 4.30 pm. The government was surprised after knowing about the impeachment process against Justice Verma from the Rajya Sabha.
EC Begins Preparations To Hold Vice Presidential Poll
Meanwhile, the Election Commission on Wednesday said it has begun the process of holding the vice presidential election, two days after Dhankhar's resignation from the post. The poll authority said it has started constituting the electoral college comprising MPs of both Houses of Parliament. Both elected and nominated members are eligible to vote in the vice presidential election. It is also finalising the returning officer and assistant returning officers.
