Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha launched 100 electric buses under the Srinagar Electric Bus Project in Srinagar on Wednesday to provide smooth and sustainable transportation to the people of Srinagar and adjoining districts.
The e-buses will run on 15 intra-city and two inter-city routes, covering a minimum of 200 km per day. The project is part of the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to achieve carbon neutrality in the country, Sinha said while he launched the fleet of e-buses at Nishat Bus Terminal.
Manoj Sinha also said that smart mobility is the top priority of the Jammu and Kashmir administration. He also thanked the Central Government for its support and assistance in improving the urban transport in the UT. He claimed that soon the dream of metro rail in Srinagar and Jammu will also become a reality.
The e-buses are equipped with various features such as Universal Access, HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) systems, an onboard vehicle tracking system, CCTV and an emergency stop facility. Sinha said that Srinagar Smart City Limited is translating the 'modal shift' concept into reality through an integrated approach to provide smooth transportation to people and contribute to the sustainability of society.
