Jhansi Fire: Several families were destroyed after a short circuit at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of the Maharani Laxmi Bai Medical College in Uttar Pradesh's Jhansi led to a massive fire and turned one night into their worst nightmare. At least 10 newborns were charred to death, with their families, and relatives screaming and crying.

Belongings of the relatives were shattered everywhere and slippers of the attendants were lying all around. Everyone was trying to console the grieving relatives.

How 10 Lives And Several Families Were Left With A Shock In Just 10 Minutes

Everything was fine and normal till 10:30 PM in the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) of the medical college. Just 10 minutes later, what happened in the ward sent chills down everyone's spine. The newborns' ward was engulfed in flames, burning fiercely. The fire's flames were visible outside the ward. Within a short time, the fire had consumed the entire ward.

The news of the fire in the NICU ward caused panic among the administrative officials. Meanwhile, the relatives of the newborns admitted in the ward rushed to the medical college upon hearing about the fire. Seeing the flames, the relatives were overwhelmed with distress. The police had to prevent people from entering the ward.

As soon as the incident was reported, Divisional Commissioner Bimal Kumar Dubey, DIG Kalanidhi Naithani, District Magistrate Avinash Kumar, SSP Sudha Singh, besides former Union Minister Pradeep Jain 'Aditya', Garautha MLA Jawahar Lal Rajput and many public representatives also reached the medical college.

Doors And Windows Were Broken To Take Out The Toddlers

Newborn babies were admitted in two rooms of the NICU ward of the medical college. As soon as the fire broke out, smoke started filling the place. Police and army personnel reached the spot on receiving the information and tried to go inside, but they could not go inside due to the intensity of the fire. Army personnel broke the windows and doors of the ward and went inside. After this, the army personnel took out some children.

Staff Got Burnt While Saving Children

After the fire broke out, there was chaos in the ward to save the children. The staff posted in the NICU ward also showed promptness and somehow took out the babies admitted in the ward. It was told that the staff also got burnt while taking out the children, who were admitted in the emergency ward.

The Machine Inside The Ward Also Got Burnt

Modern machines were installed in the NICU ward to provide better medical facilities to newborn babies. Most of the machines were destroyed in the fire. Some machines were saved from getting engulfed in the fire.

After the fire was extinguished, the officials went inside the NICU ward and inspected the incident. The ward was blazing due to the fire. Due to the water spray, water was visible everywhere in the ward. After the fire was extinguished, ADM (Finance and Revenue) Varun Pandey went inside with the officials and inspected the situation.

UP Govt Orders Multi-Level Probe

Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak said that a multi-level investigation will be conducted into the massive fire at Jhansi Medical College that claimed the lives of 10 newborn babies.

Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Pathak assured strict action against whoever was responsible for the incident as he extended the state government's support to the families of the deceased infants.
