The train traffic on the Sidhwar-Sanki railway line came to a standstill after a big boulder blocked the tracks near tunnel no 2 in Jharkhand’s Ramgarh area. The incident was triggered due to incessant rain in the area.
During this time, the engine returning from Sankhi to Barkakana got caught under the rock. The rock got stuck under the front part of the engine and was dragged quite a distance into the tunnel. However, no great harms were reported in the incident.
The railway track was severely damaged and became uneven in several places. Although the railway is working on installing nets to prevent rocks from falling, a large boulder managed to bypass these safety measures.
A rescue team has reached the site, and following the incident, the entire railway management team has also arrived with a rescue train to the accident location. They are currently attempting to remove the large boulder from underneath the engine.
Several trains in Dhanbad Division Rerouted
Upon learning of the incident, the Dhanbad Railway Division has rerouted the Vande Bharat and an express train from the Barkakana-Ranchi via Sanki BIT Mesra route. The Patna-Ranchi-Patna Vande Bharat Express and the Asansol-Hatia-Asansol Express, which used to run through Barkakana, Siddhwar, Hehal, Sanki, BIT Mesra, Tata SIlwe, and Ranchi, will now take the route through Muri to reach Barkakana.
The passengers travelling between Ranchi and Patna on the Vande Bharat Express train will once again have to use a different route for a few days. The route of the Vande Bharat and several other express trains has been diverted until further notice. Now, it will take passengers over an hour longer to reach Ranchi from Barkakana. Travelling from Muri to Ranchi will also take more time now.
