Kolkata Metro On Kali Puja: The Kolkata Metro Railway will extend its services on the occasion of Kali Puja in the West Bengal capital city. The Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation Ltd said it will run special late-night trains on its Blue Line on October 20 (Monday), allowing people to travel conveniently on the evening of Kali Puja.

The announcement by the metro authorities comes, speculating the arrival of large number of passengers in Kolkata. Every year on the occasion of the Kali puja, lakhs of people visit the city’s iconic Kalighat and Dakshineswar Kali Temples to participate in the night-long festivities.

The Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation Ltd, in an official statement, issued on Friday (October 17), said the metro authorities will extend operations beyond regular hours to ensure smooth and safe travel for passengers on October 20.

Kolkata Metro Extends Timings

The Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. will operate the last train from Dakshineswar to Sahid Khudiram on Kali Puja night at 10:51 pm (departure time), instead of the usual 9:28 pm. The last train from Sahid Khudiram to Dakshineswar will leave at 11:00 pm. Normally, it leaves at 9:33 pm. Further, the Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation Ltd said on October 20, a total of 144 services (72 in each direction) will be operated on the Dakshineswar–Sahid Khudiram corridor.

The metro authorities said it will deploy additional staff and security personnel to manage the festival rush, particularly at stations near religious spots such as Kalighat and Dakshineswar, which see the arrival of thousands of devotees during the Kali puja.

The Kali puja, one of the prime festivals of Bengalis, draws thousands of devotees from across the state to Kolkata’s temples and pandals.
