At least 15 people died on Monday from burns and suffocation in a massive fire that broke out in a three-story illegal commercial building in the capital's Aliganj residential area. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath held a high-level meeting at his official residence on Monday evening.
A complaint has been filed at the Aliganj police station regarding the Sector D fire incident. A case is now being registered based on this complaint. Virendra Shukla, Surendra Shukla, and Dhirendra Shukla have been named in the complaint.
Virendra Shukla is said to be the owner of the Rameshwaram Institute of Technology. All three have been detained by the police.
Who's in the SIT?
On the CM's instructions, an SIT has been formed to investigate the incident. The two-member Special Investigation Team includes:
- Amrit Abhijat, Additional Chief Secretary, Tourism, Charitable and Culture Department
- Praveen Kumar, Additional Director General of Police, Lucknow Zone.

Following a high-level meeting, the investigation team formed on CM Yogi has been instructed to submit its report within seven days.
Bulldozer action looms
Given the Chief Minister's tough stance on the incident, it is believed that the building may see bulldozer actions if irregularities are found.
Along with this, action can also be taken against the officers and employees of Fire, Electrical Safety, LDA and Municipal Corporation.
Lucknow MP Rajnath Singh visits site
Meanwhile, Defence Minister and Lucknow MP, Rajnath Singh, arrived at the spot and took stock of the situation along with state deputy CM Brijesh Pathak, who was among the first responders.
CM Yogi has announced Rs 5 lakh ex gratia for the deceased and Rs 50,000 for those injured. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also announced an ex gratia amount of Rs 2 lakh to the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured.
