The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the establishment of the National Centre of Excellence (NCoE) for Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics, and Extended Reality (AVGC-XR) in Mumbai, Maharashtra. This significant initiative is part of the government's commitment to fostering the growth and development of the AVGC-XR sector in India. The NCoE will serve as a premier institution that anchors the AVGC-XR ecosystem in the country.
The AVGC-XR sector plays a pivotal role in various aspects of Media and Entertainment, including filmmaking, Over The Top (OTT) platforms, gaming, advertisements, and even sectors such as health, education, and other social domains. This sector is an integral part of the country's growth story, and its exponential growth is driven by rapidly evolving technology, increasing internet penetration, and affordable data rates.
Recognizing the potential of AVGC-XR, the government has established the NCoE to act as a catalyst for the sector's growth. The NCoE will offer specialized training-cum-learning programs that equip both amateurs and professionals with the latest skill sets in cutting-edge AVGC-XR technologies. It will also foster research and development by bringing together experts from diverse fields, such as computer science, engineering, design, and art. This collaboration will pave the way for major breakthroughs and innovations in the AVGC-XR field.
Furthermore, the NCoE will focus on creating India's Intellectual Property (IP) for both domestic consumption and global outreach. This initiative will drive the creation of content that showcases India's rich historical and cultural heritage. The centre will also serve as an incubation hub, providing resources and support to nurture startups and early-stage companies in the AVGC-XR sector. This will create an ecosystem that fosters innovation and growth, positioning India as a global leader in AVGC-XR activities.
The NCoE for AVGC-XR will not only contribute to the growth of the sector but also create employment opportunities for the youth from all parts of the country. This will provide a significant boost to the creative arts and design sector, making India a preferred destination for AVGC-XR professionals and enthusiasts. The centre will also enhance India's soft power globally, attracting foreign investment into the Media & Entertainment Sector.
By positioning the NCoE as a driving force for the AVGC-XR industry, the government aims to establish India as a hub for AVGC-XR activities. This initiative aligns with the goals of the Atmanirbhar Bharat Initiative and will contribute to the overall development and prosperity of the nation.
