Namma Metro Update: DPR Work Begins For Inter-District Metro Linking Bengaluru To Tumakuru; Check Distance, Route

In a major push towards infrastructure development, the much-awaited Bengaluru-Tumakuru inter-district Metro project has now moved a step closer, with the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) initiating the Detailed Project Report (DPR). The move also signals a fresh momentum in what will be the state’s first inter-district metro line.

Bengaluru-Tumakuru Project: Details

- Length: In total, the metro will cover a distance of 59.60 kilometres.

- The metro line will run from Madavara, located in rural Bengaluru, to Tumakuru, which is the adjacent district.

- A contract for the same has been given to RV Engineering Consultants Limited for a value of Rs 1.26 crore.

- The agency has been given a deadline to submit the DPR within five months to the BMRCL.

- Route: The metro will connect important places, Madavara, Nelamangala, Dabaspet, Kyathsandra and Tumakuru.

- The DPR will also involve a detailed study of multiple alignment options for the Metro line.

- The consultant will also carry out geotechnical investigations, local field surveys, and assessments of environmental and technical aspects to determine feasibility and optimal routing.

- Currently, Madavara is connected with the Silk Institute through the Green Line, covering a distance of 33.46 kilometres with 31 operational stations.

- The proposed extension aims to take Metro connectivity beyond Bengaluru city limits and into neighbouring Tumakuru district.

BMTC Introduces New Feeder Bus Services Between Tinfactory And Bidarahalli 

In a separate development, the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has announced the introduction of a new metro feeder route in east Bengaluru between Tinfactory and Bidarahalli. The bus route will be an important one for the people, given that urban mobility in Bengaluru depends on how well different modes of public transport connect.

It will also help handle the huge footfall of people as metro ridership in the city continues to rise. The focus has also been to provide last-mile travel to commuters, especially to neighbourhoods where reaching a station remains a daily challenge.
