Karur Stampede: A senior leader of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) party, founded by actor-turned-politician Vijay, has been charged for allegedly inciting the youth of Tamil Nadu to replicate the Nepal-like Gen Z protest through a social media post.
Through his social media post, TVK leader termed the state government as ‘wicked government’.
Aadhav Arjuna, General Secretary of TVK, faced severe backlash for a social media post made less than 48 hours after Karur stampede at a Vijay rally, which claimed 40 lives. The post, since deleted, called for a 'youth revolution' against the current government, sparking criticism from the ruling DMK party.

Arjuna was booked under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for allegedly inciting unrest through his post. The TVK party distanced itself from Arjuna's remarks, stating they don't advocate violence
'Revolution' Like Bangladesh, Nepal
Citing recent examples of Bangladesh and Nepal, Arjuna urged youth to lead a ‘revolution’. The widely shared screenshot of the post shows Arjuna saying, "A youth-led revolution is the only solution. 'Gen Z' revolted in Sri Lanka, Nepal against the ruling government. Here also the youth will lead a revolution."
He added, "That revolution is going to be the reason for a change in government. Under a wicked ruler even the laws turn wicked." The post also accused Tamil Nadu police of assaulting citizens "for just walking on the road" and arresting them "for expressing opinions on social media".
DMK MP Kanimozhi criticised Aadhav Arjuna's remarks as "irresponsible," warning that they could spark violence.
According to NDTV, TVK sources clarified that Arjuna's comments were his personal views and not supported by the party or its leader. As one source stated, "The party and Vijay will never instigate people or violence," and added that the post was promptly removed.
TVK is facing pressure after the Karur stampede, with police claiming the incident was caused by Vijay's ‘deliberate display of political power’. TVK disputes this, attributing the disaster to police mishandling and a power outage.

Arjuna Petition In Madras High Court
Arjuna has filed a petition in the Madras High Court with two main requests:
- Allowing Vijay to meet victim families: Ensuring Vijay isn't prevented from meeting the families of those killed in the Karur stampede and supporting them.
- CBI Investigation: Transferring the inquiry into the stampede from the Tamil Nadu police to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), citing concerns over impartiality and potential bias in the state-led investigation.
