Himachal Pradesh: Shimla will now offer a convenient lift connecting the Middle Bazaar to Mall Road, making travel easier, especially for senior citizens and tourists. On Monday, the much-awaited lift was inaugurated by Vikramaditya Singh, the Himachal Pradesh Minister for Public Works and Urban Development. The project was launched under the Smart City Mission.

The lift can accommodate up to eight people at a time, and tickets will be priced at Rs 10, valid for 12 hours. The lift provides a direct route from the Middle Bazaar to Mall Road, offering a hassle-free journey, particularly beneficial for senior citizens and those who find it difficult to navigate the steep hills of Shimla.

“The lift is a significant convenience, especially for the elderly and tourists who frequent the area,” said Minister Vikramaditya Singh during the inauguration ceremony.

The lift, which cost Rs 1.77 crore to build, was completed in two years and is operated and maintained by the Rapid Transport System Development Corporation (RTDC) for the next five years. The foot overbridge measures 24 meters in length and 1.5 meters in width, providing easy access to the lift.

Minister Singh also shared exciting plans for the future of Shimla's infrastructure. The Municipal Corporation of Shimla is preparing a proposal for a multi-storeyed parking facility with escalators at Jakhu Temple. This will ease parking congestion for devotees and visitors alike.

To ease traffic congestion, plans are underway to expand Cart Road and improve its connections with the bypass, making travel smoother within the city.
