A scheme titled the NALSA Veer Parivar Sahayata Yojana 2025 has been launched to proactively provide legal assistance to the families while Indian soldiers serve in harsh terrain. The newly introduced initiative, which is the first of its kind in Indian history, is aimed at freeing Indian soldiers from the domestic legal burden.

The Executive Chairman of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and the next Chief Justice of India, Justice Surya Kant, formally launched the scheme at a conference in Srinagar on Saturday.

Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, and Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah attended the event.

According to sources familiar with the matter, said that Justice Surya Kant was moved by the sacrifice of the armed forces during Operation Sindoor and was exploring ways in which the judiciary could directly contribute to the well-being of soldiers, NDTV reported.

The report further added, quoting sources, that the legal fraternity must ensure that soldiers defending the country are not left alone to handle personal legal crises.

The new scheme is designed to address the inability of soldiers, deployed in far-flung areas, to appear before the court or follow through on legal cases involving family property, domestic disputes, or land matters. Through the newly introduced initiative, NALSA will intervene to ensure that such cases are properly represented in courts across the country.

Paramilitary personnel, including those serving in the Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), and other forces operating in similarly challenging and high-risk environments, will also be provided legal support through the scheme.
