Chennai Weather Update: Chennai residents on Thursday woke up to heavy rainfall and thunderstorms, providing a great relief from the heat they have been facing for the past few days. While the day is likely to remain partly cloudy, several regions of the city received the rainfall in the early hours of the day, significantly decreasing the temperature in these regions. Several social media users from different parts of the city shared visuals of the rainfall, receiving reactions from the netizens.

Visuals Shared On Social Media Platforms

The residents shared rainfall visuals from the different parts of Chennai, stating that the rain has provided significant relief from the heat. Earlier on Wednesday, the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) of Chennai issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms in isolated regions of Tamil Nadu for the upcoming days. The weather department stated that the temperature in these regions is also likely to dip due to the weather change, providing a relief to the residents of these regions.

The RMC stated that a cyclonic circulation over the Comorin area and its neighbourhood is expected to trigger rain in several districts of the state for the next five days. Director of the Area Cyclone Warning Centre P Senthamarai Kannan stated that apart from Tamil Nadu, several regions of Puducherry are also expected to receive rainfall from Thursday.

He further stated that the regions, including Western Ghats districts, Nilgiris, Tirunelveli, and some parts of southern Tamil Nadu, will receive rainfall in the upcoming days.

Weekly Weather Forecast For Chennai

The weather department stated that while Chennai will experience partly cloudy skies on April 3 and April 4, it might receive light rain on April 5 and 6, reducing the temperature of the city. The weather department further stated that the weather will again turn partly cloudy on April 7 and 8. It stated that the city will continue to witness cloudy skies and light rain for the upcoming days. It also urged the residents to follow the guidelines and limit their outings.
