Zubeen Garg's Death Probe: The Singapore Police said the investigations into the death of singer Zubeen Garg are ongoing but so far no foul play is suspected. The statement by the Singapore police is contradictory to the Assam government that claimed that it was a murder.
The popular singer from Assam died under mysterious circumstances while swimming in the sea in Singapore on September 19, triggering a massive outrage in the northeastern state, prompting authorities to launch a probe.
The case is currently still being investigated by the Singapore Police Force (SPF), in accordance with the Singapore Coroners Act 2010, the police said on Thursday.
Singapore Police To Complete Probe By Feb 2026
Sidelining conspiracy theory, the Singapore Police Force further asserted that based on its investigations so far, it does not suspect foul play in the death of Garg. Police said upon completion of the investigations, the findings will be submitted to the State Coroner in Singapore, who will hold a Coroner's Inquiry (CI), currently scheduled for January and February 2026.

"A CI is a fact-finding process led by the Coroner to establish the cause and circumstances of death. Its findings will be made public upon conclusion, said the SPF. Singapore police are committed to conducting a thorough and professional investigation into the case," it said in a statement. Police sought the patience and understanding of the parties involved.
SIT Files Complaint Against MLA Akhil Gogoi
On the other hand in Assam, the special investigation team (SIT), probing into the death of singer Zubeen Garg, filed a complaint with the Assam Police's Crime Branch against Independent MLA Akhil Gogoi for allegedly circulating on social media "unverified" documents related to the charge sheet in the case.
The circulation of such documents is 'illegal" and will "mislead the public and create confusion", he said. Gogoi, the Sivasagar MLA, was accused of circulating some documents on social media, claiming these to be part of the charge sheet against the seven accused in the singer's death case.
The nine-member SIT, headed by Special DGP Munna Prasad Gupta, had submitted the charge sheet before the Kamrup (Metro) Chief Judicial Magistrate on December 12.
