The Shiv Tandava Stotram is a powerful hymn composed and sung by Ravana to honour Lord Shiva. This sacred stotram describes Lord Shiva's cosmic dance, which destroys all negative energies and vibrations. The hymn consists of 15 verses, each one vividly portraying the fearless and eternal beauty of Lord Shiva in intricate detail. The narrative of the Shiv Tandav Stotram commences with the incident wherein Ravana attempted to relocate the Kailash mountain, along with Lord Shiva, to Lanka by lifting it with his hands. As a consequence of this audacious act, Lord Shiva exerted pressure using his toe, resulting in the crushing of Ravana's fingers. Ravana, overcome with pain, sought to appease Lord Shiva by reciting a hymn, which subsequently became renowned as the Shiv Tandav Stotram.
It is believed that music possesses the potency to gratify the divine, and Lord Shiva was indeed captivated by Ravana's melodic rendition. Upon being pleased, Lord Shiva offered Ravana a boon, whereupon Ravana requested the conferral of invincibility, thus rendering himself indestructible. Let us check out the lyrics and benefits of reciting the Shiv Tandava Stotam to please Lord Shiva.
