Kalashtami, or Kala Ashtami, is one of the most significant festivals in Hinduism. This day honours Lord Bhairav. Kalashtami is observed on the eighth day of each Hindu lunar month during the waning phase of the moon, also known as the Krishna Paksha Ashtami tithi. The eighth day after the full moon day, also known as Astani Tithi after Purnima, is regarded the most auspicious day for receiving Lord Kaal Bhairav's blessings. The Kalashtami vrat in the month of Ashadha (June) is being observed on 28th June 2024.

Kalashtami June 2024: Significance Of This Sacred Day
The 'Aditya Purana' mentions the significance of Kalashtami. According to the Aditya Purana, Lord Kaal Bhairav is the major deity to be worshipped on Kalashtami. Lord Kaal Bhairav is also known as Lord Shiva's incarnation. In Hindu mythology, 'Kaal' symbolises time, whereas 'Bhairav' refers to Shiva's incarnation. Kaal Bhairav is also known as the 'God of Time'. This day is very important for Lord Shiva devotees, hence they celebrate and adore Lord Bhairav with great devotion.

Kalashtami June 2024: Puja Vidhi Of This Auspicious Day
On the day of Kalashtami, devotees follow a stringent vrat. The vrat is said to bring prosperity and happiness to those who observe it. On this day, it is deemed auspicious to recite the Kaal Bhairav Katha and chant mantras to Lord Shiva. Devotees often visit Lord Kaal Bhairav's shrines in the evenings and give special prayers. Brahmin Bhoj is held on this day.

There is also a tradition of feeding dogs on this day, as a black dog is said to be Lord Bhairav's vehicle. During the day, dogs are given milk, curd, and sweets.
