The fact that Lord Hanuman is a Bal Brahmachari is well known to us. Nevertheless, Do you know that he was married? Yes, you did hear correctly! The sacred Hindu scriptures mention that he was married to Suvarchala Devi, the daughter of the Sun god. It is also believed that Lord Hanuman and his wife are childless celibates. Both the Ramcharit Manas and the Valmiki Ramayana address the account of Lord Hanuman’s marriage with Suvarchala Devi.
There is a temple in Telangana dedicated to Hanuman's consort. The depiction of Hanuman ji and his spouse Suvarchala Devi shows him in his householder avatar instead of his Brahmachari form. Let us know more details further.
Lord Hanuman's portrayal as a celibate devotee contradicts the belief that he is married and has a wife. Sri Suvarchala Sahitha Hanuman Temple: Where Lord Hanuman Gives Darshan With His Consort
Suvarchala Temple, also known as the Hanuman Wife Temple is located in the Khammam region of Telangana. This temple's existence attests to Hanuman's marriage. However, this does not mean that Lord Hanuman is not a Brahmachari. Hanuman Ji is not just an adult married man but also a Brahmachari who took the marriage vows while he was young.
This is the only temple where Lord Hanuman is worshipped with his wife. It is also believed that having darshans of Lord Hanuman and his spouse at this temple resolves all marital problems.
What Is The Legend Behind Lord Hanuman’s Marriage?
The Sun God was Hanuman Ji's mentor. Additionally, Hanuman Ji had to learn nine things from Sun God that Sun God already knew. After teaching him the first five Vidyas, Sun God requested Lord Hanuman to get married so that he could teach him the next four Vidyas, as they could only be imparted to married individuals.
Hanuman Ji chose to get married in accordance with the Sun God's instructions, but he couldn't find a spouse. Then, Surya Dev proposed the name of Suvarchala, his most brilliant daughter to wed Lord Hanuman. Following this, Suvarchala Devi and Hanuman Ji got married. Suvarchala was thought to have been a severe ascetic. Following his marriage, Suvarchala immersed herself in penance, which is how Hanuman Ji learned the last four teachings. In this way, Lord Hanuman was married but his celibacy was never broken.
