US Open 2025: Reigning US Open champion Jannik Sinner maintained his sublime form during the ongoing Grand Slam by defeating Alex Popyrin in straight sets. The star Italian tennis player defeated Popyrin by 6-3, 6-2. 6-2 and has qualified for the third round.
Sinner was dominant from the beginning. Post finishing the first set on serve, the youngster did get some treatment done on his right foot. He then bounced back brilliantly during the second set. Popyrin did commit some unforced errors and also played some delicate drop shots. Sinner completely dominated the match, although Popyrin did try to put up a fight.
As for the women's singles, top-seeded Iga Swiatek and Naomi Osaka both won their second-round matches and have qualified for the next round. Swiatek did survive a nervy moment against Lesley Pattinama Kerkhove. The match went to the third set after Kerkhove won the second set and ensured Iga Swiatek committed unforced errors. But the reigning French Open champion bounced back and won the match by playing a brilliant ace shot. Swiatek will lock horns with Anna Kalinskaya during the next round.

Naomi Osaka also qualified for the third round, and it was the first time that she had qualified for this round post-2021. Naomi, who was wearing a shiny purple dress and was carrying her Labubu charm 'Arthur Flash', faced a valiant fight during the sixth game, where she played her brilliant forehand. She will now either face Daria Kasatkina or Kamilla Rakhimova.
“I was focused on not giving free points and staying positive. Once I found my timing, I could play my game,” Osaka told broadcasters during the post-match presentation.
