WhatsApp, a popular messaging application, tests new features at regular intervals across iOS, Android and PC platforms. In the latest move, the company is now working on a voice chat mode for the Meta AI chat model on Android, according to WABetaInfo. The feature was reportedly spotted in the Android beta '2.24.18.18' version. Because the feature is in development, it is not rolling out to beta testers.
According to the report, the voice chat mode for Meta AI was earlier spotted in the works in the iOS beta build. Plus, the company was earlier developing the option to choose Meta AI voice and convert speech to text with the "Captions and transcription" toggle. As per the screengrab shared by WABetaInfo, the feature may enable hands-free chats with Meta AI.
The message "Hold to chat using your voice" may pop up over the Meta AI icon once the feature starts rolling out. This will allow people to interact more naturally and efficiently with the chatbot. Plus, speaking can be faster than typing when it comes to conversations. Meta AI may respond in a selected voice, which users can choose based on their preferences.

Plus, the company may bring a voice shortcut with chat mode by just pressing the floating action button. The voice chat mode may allow speedy and more natural chats with Meta AI for responsive feedback. Users may get the option to enable the mode manually. This will also be helpful in situations when typing may not be a possible or convenient option.
Users can switch to text mode anytime and stop voice mode to maintain the privacy of conversations in public environments. The typical visual indicator may show up in the status bar on Android when Meta AI is listening. This will allow users more control over interactions with Meta AI. WhatsApp beta for Android users must keep their app updated from the Google Play Store to try out the feature once it starts rolling out.
