About Sarcoma Cancer

Sarcomas are a type of cancer that are not very common and can develop in different parts of the body such as bones and soft tissues like muscles, fat, blood vessels, nerves, deep skin tissues, and fibrous tissues. According to the National Cancer Institute, around 12,000 people in the United States are diagnosed with soft tissue sarcomas and about 3,000 people with bone sarcomas each year.

When a sarcoma reaches stage IV and spreads to distant areas of the body, it becomes very challenging to treat and is often not curable. However, there is a chance for some patients to achieve a cure if both the primary tumor and all the areas where the cancer has spread (metastases) can be completely removed through surgery. The most favorable outcome is observed when the cancer has only spread to the lungs.
