In a major push to strengthen civic infrastructure, Mayor Sunita Dayal on Sunday laid the foundation stone for development projects worth Rs 10 crore across seven wards of the city. The works will include road construction and drainage improvement in key localities.
During the ceremony, residents raised concerns about damaged roads and waterlogging during the monsoon. Responding to the grievances, the mayor directed that the works be executed using funds from the 15th Finance Commission.

Mayor Dayal also flagged the issue of drain encroachments, stating that people living in some areas, including Bhopura, have occupied drain space and service roads, worsening waterlogging.
“People have been given time to clear the encroachments. If they fail, the Municipal Corporation will take strict action,” she warned. She further instructed engineers and contractors to ensure strict quality control in all projects, adding that she would personally inspect the works. Any lapses in quality, she said, would invite action.
