UP Crime:  A fast-track court in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, sentenced a 36-year-old man to life imprisonment for the terrible act of raping his 60-year-old widowed mother. In a hearing on Monday, Additional District Judge Varun Mohit Nigam, after completing a thorough investigation, declared the accused Aabid guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment and a Rs 51,000 fine.

“Today, the honorable court has delivered a historic verdict. In my years of practice, I have never seen or heard of a mother, in a serious crime like Section 376, weeping and repeating that her son is a monster who raped her. The court has disposed of the case in a record 20 months,” government counsel Vijay Sharma said, as quoted by news agency IANS.

According to the government counsel, the incident occurred on January 16, 2023, in a village in Bulandshahr, when the accused, Aabid, accompanied his mother to the fields to gather fodder for animals and allegedly raped her.

The mother claimed that her son desired and asked her to live with him as his wife after the death of his father, according to some reports.

“After the death of my husband, my son wanted me to live like his wife,” the victim’s statement read.

Yusuf and Javed, Aabid's younger brothers, informed the police of their mother's trauma and filed a First Information Report (FIR).

“The mother told us about the incident when she returned. We tried to sort out the issue within the family but Aabid kept threatening our mother to live with him as his wife following which we lodged the FIR,” the accused’s brother claimed as reported by Indian Express.

Aabid was taken into custody on January 22, 2023, after a complaint was filed on January 21, 2023, under sections 376 (penalty for rape) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
