Maternity protection is no longer out of reach for the residents of Chhedia West village, situated in the Tharu-dominated forest belt of Palia block near the Nepal border. ANM Shanta Rana, posted at the Ayushman Arogya Mandir Health Sub-Centre, has been instrumental in implementing Mission Mamta on the ground.
With over 300 institutional deliveries carried out under her supervision, pregnant women in the area are no longer forced to travel long distances for medical care during childbirth.
Recognising her significant contribution, District Magistrate Durga Shakti Nagpal dedicated official social media handles to Shanta Rana on the occasion of Chaitra Navratri. This move, aligned with the Chief Minister’s vision, stands as a unique step towards highlighting women empowerment in the healthcare sector.

The health sub-center now offers 24/7 delivery services, providing a crucial lifeline to expecting mothers. The facility ensures free treatment, diagnostic tests, medications, and medical assistance before, during, and after delivery, as per the government's maternal healthcare mission.
According to ANM Shanta Rana, each pregnant woman undergoes at least four check-ups, and is given calcium and chlorine tablets to improve maternal and infant health. This has significantly reduced the risks associated with pregnancy in the region.
Previously dependent on far-off hospitals, women in Chhedia West now have access to safe childbirth facilities within their village. The development has not only enhanced health security but also contributed to improving maternal and infant survival rates in the area.
