The Yogi government's drive to ensure free ration scheme benefits reach the right people has seen Gorakhpur and Prayagraj emerge as top performers in card distribution. Gorakhpur leads in Antyodaya ration card distribution, while Prayagraj holds the top spot for eligible household ration cards.
Lucknow stands at fourth place for eligible household cards and ninth for Antyodaya cards. The government has directed officials to expedite the verification process. Under the National Food Security Act, free rations, including wheat, rice, pulses, and other essentials, are provided to the poor.
To prevent ineligible individuals from receiving benefits and ensure that no eligible person is left out, the Yogi government has launched a special verification campaign. Aadhaar-linked verification and online applications have been implemented to maintain transparency.
According to the Food and Logistics Department, Prayagraj tops the list in issuing the highest number of eligible household ration cards at 9,34,677, followed by Sitapur (7,74,576), Agra (7,38,939), Lucknow (7,01,070), Jaunpur (6,91,216), Gorakhpur (6,72,749), Azamgarh (6,70,679), Bareilly (6,70,677), Siddharthnagar (5,89,160), and Lakhimpur Kheri (5,86,592).
In the distribution of Antyodaya cards, Gorakhpur holds the top position with 1,26,392 cards, followed by Sitapur (1,11,714), Lakhimpur Kheri (1,09,395), Azamgarh (1,05,782), Bareilly (97,996), Prayagraj (86,613), Siddharthnagar (82,334), Jaunpur (1,25,472), Lucknow (48,903), and Firozabad (32,231).
To prevent irregularities in ration distribution, ration shops are being digitised, and POS machines are being used. The government has instructed all districts to conduct regular monitoring and reviews to ensure that no eligible family is deprived of rations.
