Lying to fix a marriage proposal is nothing but a recipe for disaster. After all, the truth will eventually come out. But this groom and his family from Uttar Pradesh’s Mahoba, learnt it the hard and embarrassing way. The said groom and his family, while fixing his marriage with a woman, reportedly lied about him being a literate person. However, to their surprise, the revelation came at the worst possible timing for THEM; during the wedding ceremony.
Yes, as soon as the bride realised the groom was illiterate, she cancelled the wedding and sent the Baraat back. But more than the cancellation, it was the method through which the bride realised the truth, which intrigued the internet. She simply asked the groom to recite the table of two, failing at which, the bride was smart enough to figure things out.
The incident was shared on social media platform Instagram, by the handle ‘shayar_yogi_’.

Taking to the comment section, people shared their take. “This is just hilarious. The fact that a family thought they could just lie about their son being illiterate and marrying him off? So glad that the woman was not only smart but courageous to just break the marriage off on the wedding stage,” a user said. “What nonsense is this? Why the f**k did the groom’s family even lie about something so basic?” added another.
“That is fine but in today's time the most educated people are going unemployed,” commented a third person. “This must have been such a financial and mental drain for the poor bride and her family. Just acceptable. The groom and his family should have been arrested,” wrote a fourth user. “Why do people even do such things? It might sound hilarious now, but this is still really problematic,” added another.
