A shocking case of reckless driving on Germany’s famed Autobahn has sparked widespread outrage after a couple was reportedly caught engaging in sexual activity while driving at nearly 90 mph (around 145 km/h). According to reports from The Sun, the dangerous stunt, which took place on the A1 motorway on November 3, nearly caused a multi-vehicle pile-up.
Couple Arrested At Service Station
The incident came to light after a fellow motorist noticed the car swerving dangerously between lanes and immediately alerted authorities. The witness told police that the 37-year-old male driver and his 33-year-old female companion were “obviously having sexual intercourse” while their Ford was still in motion.
At one point, the vehicle reportedly jerked sharply to the right, forcing a nearby truck to veer onto the hard shoulder to avoid a collision. Investigators later confirmed that the couple’s actions could have easily triggered a fatal accident involving several vehicles on the busy stretch of road.
Police patrol units intercepted the car a short while later at a petrol station near Münster. Officers detained the driver and questioned both individuals on the spot. The male driver was taken into custody and now faces criminal charges for “dangerous interference with road traffic” under Section 315b of the German Penal Code. Authorities confirmed that the offence carries a possible prison sentence of up to five years, depending on the court’s ruling. The female passenger was allowed to leave after questioning but could still face penalties for contributing to the unsafe conduct.
Legal Action Underway
German police said the driver’s license has been temporarily suspended pending investigation. Officials also impounded the vehicle for forensic checks to verify dashboard camera footage and lane detection data. “This was not just reckless, it was criminal behaviour that could have ended in tragedy,” a Münster police spokesperson said in a statement.
This is not the first case of dangerous driving making headlines on German roads. Earlier this year, a motorist was caught racing down the Autobahn near Berlin at an astonishing 200 mph (over 320 km/h). The driver, identified by police in Magdeburg, was fined 900 Euros (around Rs 92,000), received a three-month driving ban, and had penalty points added to his record.
Following the recent incident, German traffic authorities have once again reminded drivers that safety takes precedence over thrill-seeking. “The Autobahn may be famous for speed, but no stretch of road is free from responsibility,” the police spokesperson added.
