PM Modi Maldives Visit 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Male, the capital of the Maldives, on Friday to a warm and festive welcome by President Mohamed Muizzu, along with the country’s Foreign Minister, Defence Minister, Finance Minister and Minister of Homeland Security. Ahead of the high-profile state visit, Male's streets were aglow with a festive appearance, lined with big posters displaying the message "Warm Greetings to Prime Minister Narendra Modi" and multicoloured banners featuring the Indian flag. Schoolchildren were also spotted carrying paintings and portraits of PM Modi, turning the mood celebratory. This is PM Modi’s third visit to the Maldives and the first visit by any head of state or government during President Mohamed Muizzu’s tenure.


"Deeply touched by the gesture of President Muizzu to come to the airport to welcome me. I am confident that India-Maldives friendship will scale new heights of progress in the times to come," PM Modi posted on X. Chants of "˜Vande Mataram"˜ echoed as PM Modi reached Maldives for a two-day State visit. Prime Minister Modi, who had arrived after finishing the UK part of his two-nation visit, will be the Guest of Honour on the 60th Independence Day of the Maldives. The two-day visit on July 25–26 marks another milestone in the long-standing India-Maldives partnership, which also coincides with the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations this year.

Community Event At Kurumba Island: Indian Expatriates Show Enthusiasm

Preparations are underway in full gear at the Kurumba Island Centre, where PM Modi will join a community reception. Indian expatriates, who represent a thriving community within the Maldives, were keen on the visit. "It is with great pleasure that we welcome PM Modi today. I have lived here for the past 24 years. The Maldives feels like a second home to me," is what one member of the Indian diaspora had to say. Another added, "We are very eager to meet him. I have been here for the past 15 years." Jessania, one of the cultural troupe members who are going to perform Chhau dance during the event, said, "I am very enthusiastic. It is a very great opportunity that I never thought I would receive. I am very happy I received it.

During his trip, Prime Minister Modi will have bilateral meetings with President Muizzu to enhance cooperation in major areas like infrastructure, development assistance, climate resilience, and security. India has been a key development partner of the Maldives, providing timely financial assistance, infrastructure facilities, and emergency support, thereby strengthening the relationship between the two neighboring countries. PM Modi’s visit underlines India’s commitment to its ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy, with the Maldives being a strategic maritime neighbour in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR). The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) posted on X, “A landmark visit to the UK concludes, elevating the India-UK trade and economic ties to new heights. PM Narendra Modi embarks on the second leg of his tour, the Maldives.”
