South Korean automobile manufacturer Hyundai is a renowned name in the auto industry across the world. The South Korean brand also has another subsidiary called Genesis for its luxury cars. The Genesis brand competes with other luxury automakers in the segment. Hyundai’s Genesis brand is present in several countries across the world such as South Korea, USA, China, Australia, Middle-Eastern countries and in parts of Europe as well.
Previously, there were talks of Genesis entering the Indian luxury car segment, however, there was no official confirmation about the same. Recently, several media reports suggest that Hyundai’s Genesis is likely to be launched in the country by the end of 2025. India’s luxury car market has been rapidly growing, as more luxury manufacturers are bringing in newer models. In addition to new launches, the sales of luxury cars have also increased rapidly, suggesting a growing trend of luxury cars among Indian buyers.
Moreover, these speculations are further being fuelled by a recent spotting of the Genesis G80 luxury sedan in Mumbai. According to a report by Motor Octane, the Genesis G80 was spotted in Worli, Mumbai. The luxury sedan didn't have a number plate, indicating it might have been brought in for display to gauge dealer interest rather than for testing purposes, as it wasn't camouflaged. The Genesis G80 is a top-of-the-line sedan in the manufacturer’s lineup as is currently in its second generation. It is available with two petrol engines globally, a 2.5-litre I4 and a 3.5-litre V6, along with a 2.2-litre diesel option.
