Mahindra and Mahindra, a leading automobile manufacturer in India is gearing up to launch the Thar 5-door variant in the country. The Mahindra Thar 5-door will be a more family focussed SUV, offering more spacious interiors in comparison to its 3-door counterpart. Additionally, according to a report by Autocar, it is being speculated that the Thar 5-door will possibly be named as the Thar Armada. Ahead of its official launch, the Mahindra Thar 5-door has been spotted testing several times, revealing specific features about the upcoming off-road SUV.
Mahindra Thar 5-Door - Variants
The upcoming Thar 5-door has been spotted again, revealing three different variants of the SUV, each offering distinct features. The base variant will sport steel wheels, while mid-spec models will come with five-spoke alloy wheels. The top-end variants will boast 19-inch multi-spoke diamond-cut alloys, as seen in previous spy shots.
Mahindra Thar 5-Door - Design
Talking about the design of the Thar 5-door, updates include a new grille, revised bumpers, a rear wiper and a remote fuel-filling cap not found in the Thar 3-door. Top-spec variants will feature LED lights all around, including different tail-lamps compared to the 3-door version.
Mahindra Thar 5-Door - Interior and Features
Talking about the interior of the upcoming Thar 5-door, the cabin is partially visible in recent spy images and showcases beige-colored seats on the top-end variant. Unlike the Thar 3-door's all-black interior, Mahindra will offer the Thar Armada with various interior themes. Earlier spy shots hinted at a redesigned dashboard to accommodate a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system borrowed from the XUV400. This SUV will also feature a similar sized fully digital instrument cluster, push-button start-stop, front and rear center armrests, a sunroof, rear AC vents, and other features.
Mahindra Thar 5-Door - Engine Specs
Under the hood, the Thar 5-door is expected to borrow engines from the Scorpio N - a 2.2-litre diesel engine and 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine with identical power and torque outputs. Buyers will have the option of both 4WD and 2WD drivetrains to cater to a broader audience.
Mahindra Thar 5-Door - Launch and Price
Mahindra plans to launch the Thar 5-door in the second half of this year after the launch of the XUV 3XO compact SUV. Its price is likely to be slightly higher than the Scorpio N, starting around Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom). Once released, it will compete directly with the upcoming Force Gurkha 5-door.
