Volkswagen Virtus vs Skoda Slavia: The sedan segment in India has not been witnessing any major development since the last couple of years. The stagnancy in the sedan segment has been noted due to the growing SUV segment in the country. However, there are some models that have been keeping the sedan segment alive in India. These models include the Volkswagen Virtus, Skoda Slavia, Hyundai Verna, Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and more. Volkswagen Virtus and Skoda Slavia are sister models from the same parent company and are practically the same car but some people prefer one over the other. Therefore, to help you in making this decision, here’s a brief comparison of the price, engine specs, features and other elements of the sedans. 

Volkswagen Virtus

Volkswagen Virtus was launched for the first time in India in March 2022. The VW Virtus is available in India with its prices ranging between Rs 11.56 lakh and Rs 19.41 lakh (ex-showroom). Virtus is available with two petrol engine options - a 1.0-litre unit and a 1.5-litre unit. Both these engines are tuned to produce a power output of 115 bhp/178 Nm and 150 bhp/250 Nm, respectively.

In terms of features, the VW Virtus gets a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a subwoofer and amplifier, push-button start/stop, a fully digital driver display, a single-pane sunroof, powered driver and co-driver’s seats, connected car technology, illuminated footwell, a wireless phone charger, ventilated front seats and rain-sensing wipers. Volkswagen Virtus has gets a host of safety features as well such as six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), hill hold assist, ISOFIX child seat anchors and rear parking sensors. Therefore, Virtus has received a 5-star rating in the Global NCAP crash tests. 

Skoda Slavia

Skoda Slavia was launched in India for the first time in February 2022. Skoda Slavia is priced between Rs 11.53 lakh and Rs 19.12 lakh (ex-showroom) in India. Slavia is also equipped with the same petrol engine options that churn out the exact same power output.  

Talking about the features, the Slavia sedan is equipped with a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, cruise control, automatic climate control, an 8-inch digital driver’s display, a single-pane sunroof, powered driver and co-driver seat, illuminated footwell, ventilated front seats and a built-in dashcam. Skoda Slavia also boasts the same safety features and has received an identical 5-star safety rating in the GNCAP crash tests.

To conclude, Skoda is Volkswagen’s premium offering brand and the models sold under Skoda generally feature premium interiors in comparison to the VW models. Therefore, if we had to suggest which sedan is a better choice among the two, we would say Skoda Slavia is the better alternative. Moreover, we are all fans of the Skoda grille and that is definitely an upgrade when compared to the Volkswagen Virtus.
