IPL 2026: BCCI's Anti-Corruption Unit has cracked down on players and officials using smart sunglasses and immediately enforced a ban for the ongoing season. They cited advanced communication features packed into these devices, which also enable live streaming and audio-video calling over mobile data and Wi-Fi. According to the advisory sent to IPL teams, the BCCI ACSU reported spotting several organizations marketing these smart sunglasses to players and support staff.
As per the latest advisory, the BCCI has instructed players and match officials to surrender these smart sunglasses before entering the PMOA and will enforce strict consequences for any player who ignores the rules.
The players have already abstained from using communication devices in the PMOA. Last month, Rajasthan Royals' Romi Bhinder incurred a fine of Rs 1 lakh and received a warning after he was caught using his mobile phone inside the dressing room during the match.

"Kindly note that these devices are equipped with advanced communication features, including live streaming, sending and receiving text messages, as well as audio and video calling capabilities through mobile data or wifi networks", the statement released by the board said.
The BCCI also bars guests from entering the hotel rooms of players and support staff for security reasons and to minimize the risk of honey-trapping.
"Accordingly, under the PMOA Minimum standards, such googles/glasses are classified both as an audio/video recording device and a communication device", the statement added.

"It is hereby notified that the possession and/or use of smart goggles is strictly prohibited within the Players and match officials arena (PMOA)", it said.
"All players and support staff are directed to deposit such devices within the Security Liaison Officer (SLO), along with their mobile phones and smart watches, upon entering the PMOA on match days", it further said.
"Failure to deposit such devices shall be deemed as the breach of the PMOA protocols and may result in penalties under the PMOA minimum standards for IPL 2026", it concluded.
The ongoing season has already seen many code-of-conduct violations. This season’s constant stream of code-of-conduct violations has deeply unsettled the IPL community. The board’s reaction—a flurry of strict new rules and bans, including restricting late-night freedoms—reflects a mounting sense of urgency and a drive to restore trust in a league that means so much to millions.
