“According to me, according to our medical team, Rohit is 100%. After returning from the hamstring injury, we were a bit cautious in the first game. Now he is playing as an Impact Sub just for the team combination when we are bowling. He is a team player; he perfectly understands it,” Mahela Jayawardhene told reporters during the pre-match press conference.

He outlined this when the Hardik Pandya-led side grappled with disruptions. Rohit Sharma's hamstring injury struck early, while other players sustained injuries throughout the season. “Surya is a naturally gifted player. At the moment, it’s a combination of confidence and just going through a patch. It happens in cricket,” he added.

“It was a collective conversation with Bumrah and the training staff. It’s been a good conversation. We all learn from this kind of season. During these six to eight weeks, he worked hard to get back to where he should be,” he added.

“It’s everyone’s responsibility. We have a core group. This year, injuries impacted us. We engaged in some really constructive conversations within the group, but we haven’t managed to galvanize the group. This is something to dissect post-season,” he concluded.
