What Did Students Leaving Lovely Professional University Say?

One student stated, "Initially, the protest was over allegations that a female student had been raped. However, what happened last night, when some miscreants entered the campus, engaged in vandalism, and committed arson, was wrong. Now we fear they might even break into the hostels, so we are going home. We will return once the situation improves."

Students at the Phagwara-based Lovely Professional University (LPU) allegedly created a massive ruckus on the campus on Sunday. They engaged in vandalism over allegations that an outsider had raped a female student on the premises and blocked a section of the New Delhi-Amritsar highway outside the campus.

What is the Reason Behind Student Protests At LPU?

A commotion broke out on the night of September 26–27 at Lovely Professional University (LPU), located in Phagwara, Kapurthala district, Punjab. Following rumors that a female student had been raped on campus, agitated students began vandalising the premises.

According to videos that surfaced on social media, a large number of protesters, some with their faces covered by handkerchiefs, engaged in vandalism inside the campus. They smashed windowpanes and flowerpots, and even set fire to certain items during the night.

LPU Issues Safety Advisory To Students

Lovely Professional University has instructed students currently on campus to remain in their hostels or accommodations and not to venture out unnecessarily. Students have also been advised against participating in any form of unrest or provocative activities.

LPU has stated that rumors circulating on social media are false and misleading, urging students to rely solely on official information. The university has asked students to cooperate in maintaining peace and order until further updates are provided.

Students should regularly check the University Management System (UMS) for the revised mid-term exam schedule and other official announcements.
