Tamil Nadu Govt School Satellite Launch:  In a remarkable feat of innovation, thirteen Class 11 students from Ariyakudi Government Higher Secondary School near Karaikudi, Tamil Nadu, successfully built and launched a 600-gram satellite named Vikko Sat 1. The small-scale satellite was designed to study fungal spores present in the second layer of the atmosphere. Guided by their teachers, the students undertook the ambitious project with scientific curiosity and a strong sense of purpose.

The initiative was driven by concerns that fungi developing in the upper atmosphere could pose serious risks to agriculture if they descend to Earth. By identifying potential fungal threats early, the students aimed to support farmers and strengthen crop protection efforts.

 'Vikko Sat 1' Satellite Innovators Name & Specifications:

The innovators include Vishnu, Bipin Kumar, Harishwar, Mithun, Manoj Kumar, Muthukaruppan, Rashid Ahmed, Muthukumar, Ashiq Rahman, Someshwar, Abhimanyu, Harikaran, and Pavendhan. Their combined efforts resulted in a 600-gram mini-satellite equipped with five sensors and a special adhesive surface designed to capture fungal spores.

Vikko Sat-1: Sivaganga Students Launch Mini-Satellite to Stratosphere

On February 13th last month, after six months of meticulous design, ViccoSat-1 was officially launched using a helium balloon in the presence of Cooperation Minister K.R. Periyakaruppan. The device traveled approximately 22 kilometers before reaching the stratosphere, the second layer of the Earth's atmosphere.

Equipped with special onboard sensors, the satellite successfully detected airborne fungi, which adhered to its adhesive surface before the payload returned safely to Earth. The entire mission was monitored in real-time from a dedicated control room on the school campus. The Minister praised all thirteen students for their outstanding scientific achievement, and the team received a special congratulatory video message from the renowned "Moon Man of India" and scientist Mylswamy Annadurai.

Fungi Research: A High-Altitude Mission to Save Indian Farmers

According to the report, the School teachers said, Fungi are difficult to eliminate when they suddenly attack crops. Therefore, we are going to study the fungi brought back from the stratosphere. We will analyze how powerful they are and whether they have the potential to harm crops if they fall to the ground. This research on high-altitude biological threats will be very beneficial for farmers in predicting and preventing future agricultural crises.
