BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis has offered his resignation as Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister over his party's poor show in the state. The BJP and its allies won only 17 of 48 Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra. Taking responsibility for the poor result of the BJP, Fadnavis asked the party's top brass to relieve him so that he could focus on upcoming elections.
"I take the responsibility for such results in Maharashtra. I was leading the party. I am requesting the BJP high command to relieve me from the responsibility of the government so that I can work hard for the party in upcoming elections," Fadnavis said.
This came after the party's poor showing in the recent Lok Sabha elections, where the BJP's seat count in Maharashtra plummeted from 23 in 2019 to only nine this year.
The Maharashtra unit of the BJP convened a key meeting today to hold deliberations over party performance and future strategy. Top party leaders from Maharashtra, including state unit chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule attended the meeting.
The MVA made significant strides, collectively winning 30 seats in Maharashtra. Congress registered a remarkable surge, securing 13 seats up from just one in 2019. Shiv Sena (UBT) amassed nine seats while the NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) garnered eight.
