28 Years Later: The trailer has left fans buzzing with excitement and speculation. Released on December 10, the upcoming zombie apocalypse film, directed by Danny Boyle, serves as a sequel to the iconic 28 Days Later (2002). The movie stars Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Ralph Fiennes in leading roles, but it’s a fleeting appearance of a zombie that has fans convinced Cillian Murphy might be making a surprise comeback as Jim, his character from the original film.

The trailer paints a chilling picture of a world still reeling from the rage virus, now almost three decades after its outbreak. Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s character is seen leaving a secure community armed with a bow and arrow, stepping into an ominous, decayed England. Jodie Comer’s character is also introduced, carrying a baby in what seems like a dangerous journey.

However, it’s the brief sight of a skeletal zombie in the trailer that has fans abuzz. The creature bears an uncanny resemblance to Irish actor Cillian Murphy, sparking rumours about his possible involvement in the sequel.

Social media lit up with fan reactions shortly after the trailer's release. One fan commented, “The zombie rising up in the field looked like my boi, Cillian Murphy.” Another wrote, “Oh wow… That looks crazy and scary. Can’t wait to see it though.”

Despite the speculation, Murphy’s name is absent from promotional materials, including the film’s official poster released earlier this month. This has only fueled curiosity, with fans eager to know if his character's fate will finally be revealed.

The official synopsis teases a gripping narrative:

“It’s been almost three decades since the rage virus escaped a biological weapons laboratory, and now, still in a ruthlessly enforced quarantine, some have found ways to exist amidst the infected. One such group of survivors lives on a small island connected to the mainland by a single, heavily-defended causeway. When one of the group leaves the island on a mission into the dark heart of the mainland, he discovers secrets, wonders, and horrors that have mutated not only the infected but other survivors as well.” Fans will have to wait until June 20, 2025, to uncover the truth behind the mysterious zombie and whether it marks Cillian Murphy’s return to the franchise.
