'Adipurush' Box Office Collection Day 8: Prabhas and Kriti Sanon's film, ‘Adipurush,’ faced several controversies and demands for a ban but managed to complete a successful week in theatres. Despite receiving negative reviews, the mythological drama, directed by Om Raut, surpassed Rs 400 crore at the global box office earnings.
However, after experiencing its lowest collection on June 22 in India, ‘Adipurush’ was banking on the weekend to improve its earnings. Box office analysts predicted that if the film failed to gain momentum during the weekend, it could be deemed a disaster.
‘Adipurush,’ a 3D film released in multiple languages on June 16, has been met with criticism from both critics and audiences since its debut for its lacklustre screenplay and subpar visual effects.
Despite being produced with a substantial budget, the Prabhas-starring film suffered a significant drop due to negative feedback from viewers. As a result, all attention was focused on the upcoming weekend, to see if the film regains momentum in order to reach the breakeven point.
Nonetheless, on June 23, ‘Adipurush’s collections witnessed a further dip as negative word-of-mouth began to impact its performance. On Friday, ‘Adipurush’ reached its one-week mark in theatres, accumulating an estimated net earnings of only Rs 3.25 crore in India. This brings the total collection to Rs 263.15 crore, with a Hindi occupancy rate of 11.20 per cent.
About 'Adipurush'
‘Adipurush’ is a cinematic adaptation of Valmiki's ‘Ramayana,’ presenting a mythological narrative. Helmed by Om Raut, the film showcases Prabhas portraying the character of Raghava, while Saif Ali Khan takes on the role of Lankesh and Kriti Sanon portrays Janaki. Sunny Singh and Devdatta Nage also contribute to the film by playing supporting characters.
‘Adipurush’ has faced demands for a ban, as various organisations have alleged that the film has offended the sentiments of Hindus. Since its theatrical release, the film has faced scrutiny regarding its authenticity and portrayal of factual elements. Arun Govil, renowned for his portrayal of Lord Ram in the popular TV show ‘Ramayan,’ referred to ‘Adipurush’ as a "Hollywood cartoon."
As a response to the backlash, the film's makers have now made adjustments to its dialogues.
