The holiday season has brought some exciting milestones for Kpop and global music fans alike, with BTS' V and Bing Crosby’s collaboration on White Christmas making its debut on the Billboard Hot 100 and BLACKPINK's Rosé setting a new record with her collaboration APT. alongside Bruno Mars.
BTS V, currently serving in the South Korean military, has once again made waves on the Billboard Hot 100 with the release of his new track, White Christmas, featuring the legendary Bing Crosby. The song secured the No. 93 spot on the prestigious chart, marking V’s sixth solo entry on the Hot 100. His previous solo tracks, including Christmas Tree, Love Me Again and Slow Dancing, have also charted, with White Christmas continuing his successful solo career after his debut album Layover in 2023.
The song, a reimagined version of the iconic holiday classic, showcases V’s deep, soulful vocals alongside Crosby’s timeless presence. The music video, which features an animated Bing Crosby and V’s beloved pet dog Yeotan, has become even more emotional for fans, as Yeotan passed away shortly after the video was completed, making it a poignant tribute to the furry friend.
V has also been active with his music releases, including his recent collaboration Winter Ahead with Park Hyo Shin, which has topped global iTunes charts. Additionally, his track FRI(END)S with over 200 million Spotify streams has further solidified his place as a solo artist, even as he continues his service in the military.
On the other side of the Kpop spectrum, BLACKPINK’s Rosé has made history with her latest single, APT. featuring Bruno Mars. Released in October 2024, the music video for APT. has shattered records, becoming the fastest Kpop music video to reach 600 million views on YouTube. Achieving this remarkable milestone in just 59 days and 18 hours, the track also holds the distinction of being the fastest music video by a female Kpop artist to do so.
APT. has been a global sensation, charting at No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100, making Rosé the highest-charting female Kpop soloist. The song has also topped the local South Korean charts, earning a Real-Time All-Kill, a rare achievement that occurs when a song hits No. 1 across multiple real-time music platforms.
In addition to her successful single, Rosé released her full solo album rosie in December 2024, featuring 12 tracks, including Toxic Till the End, Number One Girl and Drinks or Coffee. The album has been met with critical acclaim and continues to dominate global music charts. Rosé also made headlines with the announcement of her signing with THE BLACK LABEL, further cementing her solo career. She is also signed with Atlantic Records, home to artists like Ed Sheeran and Charli XCX.
