Sunny Deol led ‘Gadar 2’ is creating havoc at the box office since its release on August 11. The film is the sequel to ‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha’ released in 2001 and also features Ameesha Patel in the lead role. Directed by Anil Sharma, ‘Gadar 2’ has officially crossed the Rs 400 crore mark at the domestic box office. As the film witnessed a slight dip on its second Tuesday, it continues to break records, and is having a historic run at the box office.

The film has managed to pull in a considerable number of audience despite witnessing a box office clash with Akshay Kumar’s ‘OMG 2.’ ‘Gadar 2’ earned a whopping Rs 11.50 crore in India on Day 12, taking the total box office collection of the film to be around Rs 400.10 crore. The film had an overall 24.93 percent occupancy on August 22 in theatres.

The plotline of ‘Gadar 2’ revolves around Tara Singh aka Sunny Deol’s character, as he ventures across the border in a daring attempt to rescue his son, essayed by Utkarsh Sharma. Set in Lahore during the year 1971, ‘Gadar 2’ perfectly captures a father’s desperate emotions and rage to bring back his son. The film also showcases anger towards those instigating hatred between India and Pakistan.

‘Gadar 2’ is a sequel to ‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha’, which was released in 2001, and was set against the backdrop of the Partition of India in 1947. The film is said to be loosely based on an ex-soldier in the British army, Boota Singh. The soldier was known for his tragic love story with Zainab, a Muslim girl he rescues during the communal riots.
