Is Samantha Ruth Prabhu not getting work in Tollywood after divorce from Naga Chaitanya? Lakshmi Manchu recently sparked controversy with her comments about a superstar's ex-wife being unofficially blacklisted in Tollywood. While promoting her film Daksha: A Deadly Conspiracy, Manchu revealed that this actress, despite being talented and eager to work, has been denied roles due to filmmakers' fear of potential backlash from her ex-husband. Manchu didn't name the actress directly, but her description seems to point towards Samantha Ruth Prabhu, who divorced Naga Chaitanya in 2021 and hasn't had a major hit in Tollywood since then. Manchu emphasised the double standard faced by women in the industry, stating that men don't face similar consequences after a divorce.
She claimed, "There is a superstar’s ex-wife who works here. She got divorced and since then, even films that were once offered to her have been taken away. Oddu le amma, aina emana antaru emo (He might feel bad and say something), is what they tell her. She is waiting to do good work and I don’t need to name her."
When the reporter questioned if she is talking about Naga Chaitanya and Samantha, she refused to comment on it. She said, "You’re thinking it’s Samantha. There’s not one superstar; around five to six of them have been divorced and I am close to all of them. But my point is a man will face something like that; his life will never change. But for a woman, once she marries, she has kids, has in-laws, she takes on a lot of responsibilities. No one gives us freedom; we have to take it on our own."
Samantha is a highly acclaimed actress in South India, known for her versatility and talent. She made her debut in the 2010 film Ye Maaya Chesave and went on to work with top stars like Pawan Kalyan, Mahesh Babu, and Allu Arjun in Telugu and Tamil cinema.
In her personal life, Samantha married Naga Chaitanya in 2017 after a long-term relationship, but the couple divorced in 2021. She also faced health challenges, announcing in 2022 that she was battling myositis, an autoimmune disorder.
After a brief hiatus, Samantha is back in the spotlight with new projects. She was last seen in the 2023 films Shaakunthalam and Kushi. Now, she's teaming up with Raj & DK again for the Netflix show Rakt Brahmand: The Bloody Kingdom, following her collaboration with them in the 2024 Prime Video show Citadel: Honey Bunny.
