A major road accident occurred late last night on Chabal Road in the city. A speeding small commercial vehicle (locally known as a "Chhota Hathi") loaded with vegetables lost control and collided first with a Swift car and then with an oncoming Verna car. Several people were reported injured in the incident.
Sequence Of Events
The collision was so severe that vegetables were scattered across the road, bringing traffic to a complete standstill for some time. According to eyewitnesses, the vehicle was moving at excessive speed. The driver failed to maintain control, hitting the Swift car before crashing into the Verna coming from the opposite direction. Panic ensued following the crash, and both cars were extensively damaged.
Allegations Of Drunk Driving
Locals alleged that the youth driving the commercial vehicle was under the influence of alcohol, which caused him to speed and lose balance. However, the police have not yet officially confirmed this. With the help of bystanders, the injured were immediately rushed to the Civil Hospital in Amritsar for treatment. Doctors confirmed that all victims sustained only minor injuries and are out of danger.
Police Action
Police arrived at the scene shortly after receiving the information and managed the situation. They cleared the damaged vehicles from the road to restore traffic flow. Officials stated that while there was significant damage to vehicles and goods, no lives were lost. Preliminary investigations point to overspeeding as the primary cause, though the allegations regarding the driver being intoxicated are also being investigated. Legal action is underway.
