Bengaluru News: A 26-year-old woman was killed in a road accident on Huskur–Makali Road in Madanayakanahalli, on the northern outskirts of Bengaluru, on Friday (October 24, 2025). The victim, identified as Priyanka Kumari Poonia, worked with the UK-based OneSavings Bank Group in the city.
Priyanka was travelling on a two-wheeler with her brother Naresh Kumar Poonia, who was riding the motorcycle, when the accident occurred. According to Naresh, he applied sudden brakes after a car ahead slowed down to avoid a pothole, causing them to lose balance.
The NDTV report cited Naresh as stating that, “As usual, I used to leave my sister at the Madavara Metro Station every day. I don’t know what happened yesterday. A car in front of us stopped due to a pothole in the road. I had to brake (my motorcycle) and I was not able to comprehend what to do there. My sister (Priyanka) died on the spot.”
Naresh explained that the motorcycle’s handle struck a truck coming from the opposite direction, throwing them to opposite sides of the road. He suffered injuries to his hands and legs, while Priyanka was run over by the truck and died instantly.
Police have registered a case and started an investigation into the incident.
Following the accident, the poor state of Bengaluru’s roads once again came under public and political scrutiny. Opposition parties accused the ruling Congress government of neglecting the city’s infrastructure and failing to prevent recurring pothole-related deaths.
According to The Hindu report, the two-wheeler reportedly skidded on the uneven stretch before Priyanka was hit by the truck.
Leader of the Opposition R. Ashoka criticised the government, holding Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar responsible for the city’s road conditions. On X, he wrote, “A woman lost her life today near Huskur APMC after her two-wheeler skidded while trying to avoid a pothole. How many more innocent lives must be lost because of your government’s negligence and incompetence, Mr. D.K. Shivakumar?”

He further questioned Shivakumar’s ‘Walk with Bengaluru’ initiative, saying, “Do you think wearing T-shirts and sunglasses for photo shoots in Lalbagh and Cubbon Park under the name of City Rounds will fix Bengaluru’s pothole problem? You have ruined Bengaluru in the name of making it Brand Bengaluru. You should be ashamed.”
The Janata Dal (Secular) also joined in, stating, “How many more lives does the Congress need to lose before fixing the potholes? Innocent citizens are dying every day on cratered roads in Bengaluru and across Karnataka. The Congress government is solely responsible for this.”
