A woman in Bengaluru narrowly escaped a deadly knife attack after some locals rescued her from her husband during a dispute at a public place. The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon in Dasanapura under the limits of the Madanayakanahalli Police Station in Bengaluru North taluk.

The couple has been identified as Sonali and Sanjay. The two are originally from Bihar and had moved to Bengaluru after marrying each other.

The couple worked at a garment factory in the city. According to the investigation team and according to police, Sanjay allegedly used to assault Sonali frequently after consuming alcohol. Troubled by the repeated abuse, Sonali had reportedly decided to separate from him and live independently.

Police said Sanjay had allegedly been threatening to kill her over the issue. During an argument that escalated onto the street, he allegedly held a knife to her neck. Locals who witnessed the incident immediately stepped in, overpowered Sanjay and rescued the woman before handing him over to the police.

What Did The Investigators Say?

Preliminary police investigation suggests domestic discord may have led to the alleged attack. Some reports also stated that the accused attempted to hide his identity by wearing a helmet or mask during the incident. The woman sustained injuries in the attack. As of now, the woman said to be out of danger after receiving medical treatment.

While the video has been widely circulated across social media platforms and multiple media outlets have reported on the incident, the viral clip itself has not been independently verified. Authorities are continuing their probe to ascertain the full sequence of events.

An NCR has been registered at the Madanayakanahalli police station. Police later counselled the couple and sent them away.
