Bengaluru Water Supply Cut: The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) announced a complete shutdown of the Cauvery water supply starting from today. The board had announced a 3-day water supply cut, from Monday to Wednesday. The water supply shutdown is expected to remain in place till 1 pm on Wednesday, September 17.

The water supply cut in Bengaluru has been announced due to maintenance work. The repair and maintenance work will be carried out at the Phase-1 and Phase-2 pumping stations under Cauvery Stages I, II, III, and IV, from 6 AM on September 16th to 6 AM of September 17, resulting in a 24-hour shutdown.

The BWSSB is carrying out maintenance work to ensure the smooth functioning of pumping stations and major pipelines, which are vital for a sustained water supply across the city.

Bengaluru Water Supply Cut: Affected Areas

The effect of the Cauvery water supply shutdown will be felt most acutely in the city’s core areas, where residents rely almost entirely on the BWSSB supply, as borewells are either absent or have run dry.

Outlying areas may get severely affected as many households are not yet connected to the BWSSB network and still depend on private water tankers.

“These works are being carried out to ensure the smooth functioning and long-term efficiency of the Cauvery pumping stations and pipelines, so that uninterrupted drinking water can be supplied to Greater Bengaluru in the future,” a press note by BWSSB Chairman V Ram Prasath Manohar read.
