Delhi Metro Yellow Line: The Delhi Metro's Yellow Line is set to expand from Samaypur Badli to Sonipat after receiving in-principle approval from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA). This move is a significant step towards improving connectivity across the National Capital Region (NCR).

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) has given initial approval for the extension of the Yellow Line. The new route will stretch from Samaypur Badli to Sonipat, passing through Nathupur. This approval allows the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to start preparing a Detailed Project Report (DPR), a crucial step in moving the project forward.

Government Confirms Approval

Tokhan Sahu, the Minister of State for MoHUA, confirmed the approval in a written statement to the Lok Sabha. He mentioned that the green light enables DMRC to begin work on the DPR, which is required for further project developments. This announcement follows a parliamentary inquiry about extending the Yellow Line to Narela.

Sahu also highlighted that the central government supports urban rail projects based on feasibility and available resources. Funding is typically provided in response to proposals from state governments or Union Territories.

Enhancing Connectivity In NCR

Currently, the Yellow Line spans 47.2 km, connecting Samaypur Badli in North Delhi to Millennium City Centre in Gurugram. It serves 37 stations, including major interchange points like New Delhi, Rajiv Chowk, and Patel Chowk. The extension to Sonipat will further strengthen links between Delhi and Haryana, improving public transport and easing traffic congestion.

The new stretch will offer better connectivity for residents and commuters, making travel between Sonipat and other parts of the NCR more convenient. This expansion is part of a broader plan to extend the metro network and provide faster, more efficient transport options.
