In a major update, the flyers can now skip long queues at immigration counters of 13 airports as Union Home Minister Amit Shah on inaugurated the Fast Track Immigration - Trusted Traveller Programme (FTI-TTP) at five more airports.

Earlier, the fast track immigration service was only available at 8 airports. The facility has been inaugurated at- Lucknow, Thiruvananthapuram, Trichy, Kozhikode, and Amritsar.

While inaugurating, Shah said that the FTI-TTP brings convenience and national security together and aligns with PM Narendra Modi's call for "Speed, Scale and Scope" in governance.

Emphasising the rising international passenger traffic, Shah said that the number of Indians travelling abroad has increased from 3.54 crore in 2014 to 6.12 crore in 2024. Similarly, the foreign arrivals in India have increased from 1.53 crore to nearly 2 crore in the same period. He said that overall the international passenger traffic has risen by 60 per cent in the said period.

What is Fast Track Immigration programme, and how does it works?

The FTI-TTP programme was launched in 2024 to reduce the burdens of immigration counters at the major airports and offer a seamless clearance system to travellers.

According to the programme, the passengers registered with the portal can scan their passports and boarding passes at the e-gate, following which their biometrics will be verified.

In case of successful verification, the gate opens up automatically within 30 seconds. Until now, over 3 lakh passengers have registered themselves with FTI-TTP. Among them, 2.65 lakhs have been using it already.

According to the officials, efforts are underway to extend the system to other airports, including Navi Mumbai and Jewar.
