Gujarat Weather: Torrential rains have caused massive destruction in Gujarat. Following IMD red alert for heavy rain in Surat and Navsari, severe waterlogging was witnessed on Wednesday morning.
Car Swept Away In Overflowing Causeway
A major accident was averted at the Bopi-Molaamba causeway in Vansda. Despite the extremely strong current, the driver of a car attempted to cross the causeway, resulting in the vehicle being swept away by the rushing waters. The sole occupant of the car was rescued safely. The administration has urged citizens not to take risks on waterlogged roads.
155 Roads Closed; Traffic Disrupted
Due to heavy rains and rising river water levels, 155 major roads in Navsari have been closed to traffic with immediate effect. According to the district administration, the closed routes include 44 roads in Chikhli , 30 in Gandevi, 29 in Vansda, 21 in Navsari, 17 in Jalalpore, and 14 in Khergam. Of these, 153 roads had to be closed because water was flowing over the causeways. Police and Home Guard personnel have been deployed at Ajrai village in Gandevi and the Molaamba-Dharampur route to ensure no one enters the restricted areas.

Schools And Colleges Declare Holiday
The Navsari Collector has declared a holiday for all Anganwadis, schools, colleges, and ITIs in the district for Wednesday. However, educational institutions have been permitted to continue online classes. The district administration has urged citizens to step out of their homes only when necessary.
Over the past 24 hours, 173 talukas in Gujarat experienced heavy rainfall. Kaprada in Valsad recorded the highest rainfall at 15.63 inches. Nanapondha (Valsad) received 11 inches, Chikhli 10 inches, Pardi and Vansda 9 inches each, Valsad and Khergam 8 inches each, and Vapi and Waghai 7 inches each.
The district administration is continuously monitoring the situation; a decision to reopen roads will be taken only after inspecting their safety once water levels recede.
