Karnataka News: A man in Karnataka allegedly killed his daughter by strangling her and forcefully poured pesticides into her mouth to make the killing look like suicide. According to the information provided by the Kalaburagi Police Commissioner, Sharanappa SD, on Friday, the man was furious over his daughter’s relationship with a young man from another caste and later decided to take an extreme step.

The incident occurred on Thursday, when the father first strangled his 18-year-old daughter and forcefully poured pesticides into her mouth. He told villagers that she had committed suicide.

"The jurisdictional police received information that an 18-year-old girl died by suicide and her last rites were performed, but there were suspicions about the case," Sharanappa said.

The local police inspected the situation and filed a complaint against the accused father, Shanka. Later, he was arrested.

The man had opposed his daughter’s relationship, fearing that an inter-caste relationship would affect the marriage prospects of his other daughters, as he had five. He also "tried to persuade the girl through his relatives to concentrate on her studies", but she "remained adamant”.

Sharanappa further said, "Shankar strangled her and poured pesticide into her mouth to make it appear as a suicide. Villagers believed it and participated in the last rites.”

A case of murder and tampering with evidence has been filed against the accused. "We suspect the involvement of two more people, who are Shankar's relatives. Investigations are ongoing, and if found guilty, they will be arrested as well," the commissioner added.
